Ouch!
I have shin splints!!
I was suppose to do 10 miles last Saturday, and could only get through 5! I had to walk back to the car, it wasn't pretty. I tried to run through it, but I started to compensate for my shin pain and my hip started to hurt. I just stopped and walked back. No need to throw my hip out too.
I am taking this whole week off of running, icing, elevating and resting my left leg. I think I have been hitting the speed work a little too hard and that's what trigger the shin splints.
This coming Saturday is a 12 miler......I'm going to pass on it and pick up my training on Monday.
This stinks!

Ouch! I hope you are feeling better soon!
yuck that sucks. take it easy and i hope you are back in biz soon. you were wise to cut it short.
I hope those shins calm down. I'd hate to see you miss a big 12 miler. You haven't been overdoing it have you?
i too have shin splints. i started speed work three weeks ago, and about a week and a half ago, i started noticing shin pain again.
seriously, i think its my body's way of letting me know I'M NOT BUILT FOR SPEED!!!!!
feel better.
Hope those shins have cleared up. I KNOW that shin splints are horrible. You are doing the right thing. Check those shoes too and make sure they aren't worn too much. For me, running on trails saved my shins while I built up mileage. I think I read about it in Runner's World.
Oh, sorry about the shin splints. I hope you are feeling better soon.
